W.B.Yeats is one of the most popular figures of twentieth century literature. He was born in Dublin in 1865. His family moved to County Sligo shortly after his birth and throughout his life he carried out a love affair with County Sligo. He thought of this area as his spiritual home.
Yeats was also a founder member of the famous Abbey Theatre in Dublin in 1899.
He was awarded the Nobel prize for Literature in 1923.
Yeats died in Menton in the South of France in 1939 and was buried in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. In 1948 his body was taken back to Drumcliffe in County Sligo where he now lies under the shadow of Ben Bulben.
