This Kilkenny County crest wall plaque was designed and handmade by Colm Mc Cann of killyliss Studio.
The plaque is hand cast in a brass finish using a coldcast method.
It is then carefully mounted onto a slate wall hanging plaque 125mm x 125mm in size.
County Kilkenny is situated in the South Eastern province of Leinster.
The county takes its name from its county town of Kilkenny.The original Irish name was Cill Chainnigh meaning the church of St Canice or Kenneth the English version of this name.
It has long been a centre of excellence for the Arts and sport.
Its hurling teams have attained legendary status with in this sport.
Kilkenny Castle , a fine example of Norman architecture ,formerly the seat of the Butler FitzWalter family,is now part of the Irish national Museum.
The Kilkenny county crest features the ermine of the Butler family the Dukes of Ormond who`s lands now make up the bulk of the county
The central band of this crest contain two family crests.one Gaelic the other Norman. This symbolises the peaceful fusion of these two traditions.
The three sheaves on the left hand side, are the crest of Dermot Mac Morrough, the King of Leinster.
The fret design on the right hand side of this panel are associated with the Den or De la Denn ,a Norman family who resided in Grenan Castle Near Thomastown in the county.
